I am sure that many have wondered about the current changes that are taking place in our tradition. At such times, it is natural for many of us to have questions about the path as it evolves into a pure form of alchemy. Since implementing some changes in our culture some questions have arisen. We will consider these in light of our tradition. Enjoy.
1) Is the term Asaru older than Babylonian culture and where does it originate?
I am sure a question like this is very important to members of the Asaru Clan and culture. Well, it didn’t take much effort to find information supporting the fact that Asaru is a Sumerian deity. He was that same deity, while different from popular opinion, that Marduk was molded after, and not DinGir Enlil. The following website has this to say on the subject http://gluedideas.com/content-collection/Encyclopedia-Britannica-Volume-14-Part-2-Martin-Luther-Mary/Marduk.html
“MARDUK, a late name for the god of the city of Babylon, who appears regularly in the classical Sumerian liturgies under the titles Asar-lu-dug and Enbilulu. The original title is Asaru, which occurs in the old pantheon at Fara, c. 3200 B.C., and so far as known, long before the city of Babylon was founded. Asaru, Asar-ri, is a title of this, originally inferior, deity of the cult of Enki at Eridu, as son of the water god, a deity of lustration. His connection with Babylon, which is first mentioned as a small city by Sargon in the 28th century B.C., may be original and very old. The title Marduk lays special emphasis upon his solar aspect. It is certain that all the older titles of this god, Asaru, Asar-alim, Asar-alim-nun-na, Asarludug, describe him as an inferior deity of the water cult of Eridu, and how he came to be transferred to Babylon is at present inexplicable. Alim means the mythical fish ram, symbol of his father, the water god of Eridu, and Asaru was the god of lustration at Habur in Eridu. Asarludug means “Asaru who restores man to happiness,” and describes his original activity as agent of Enki in all magical rituals of the water cult against demons. Marduk is pre-eminently the god of the magicians in Babylonian and Assyrian religion, and this was his sole sphere in the original Sumerian pantheon.
With the rapid rise of Babylon under the 1 r kings of the 1st dynasty (2169-1870), the priests of the local cult looked for some means of increasing the respect due to the god of the great capital and a theological reason for it. Inasmuch as the Sumerian pantheon had been universally accepted by the Accadians, and had now a firm hold upon the religious beliefs of the Semites in Assyria, Cappadocia and the Amoritic western country, it was impossible to make Asaru one of the three heads of the trinity; these were securely held by Anu, Enlil and Enki. But the old war and sun god Ninurta, Zamama, son of Enlil, was largely drawn upon to make Asaru also a sun god, and more especially the god of the spring sun. This addition to his original character as a god of lustration and magic was brought about by rewriting the Sumerian legend of Creation in which Ninurta championed the gods against the dragon of Chaos, the storm demon and then created the world. The new Semitic version in six books attributed this victory of the gods to Marduk. The name itself was introduced at this time, amar-udu, amar-utu, and means “young bull, the sun,” becoming, after the regular rule of Sumerian loan words, Marutukku, Marudukku, Md-rii-tu-[uk-ku], Maruduk, Marduku, Marduk. (See S. Langdon, Oxford Editions of Cunei form Texts, vol. vi. 99, 113, and Cuneiform Texts . . in the British Museum, vol. xxv. 34, ii. 17.) The Hebrew transcription is Merodak, and the Greek, Maradouchos, Mardakos, Mardokos, Maradach.”
From the information cited above, we can see that the term Asaru is of Sumerian origin, and that “Marduk” was merely one aspect of the many attributes that this deity possessed. We find additional information in A Sumer Aryan Dictionary by L. A. Waddell, states the following on page 128 of the said work:
“ASAEU, ASAEI (As-), Lord or God, Asaru as ” The Eye of the Throne ” — a title of the supreme god. Pictured by an Eye within the sign for Throne and is identical with the Egyptian hieroglyph for Osiris,”
2) Being that the term Asaru is that of a minor Sumerian god, of which Marduk was one of his many titles, how widespread was his cult? Additionally, is it proper for us today to use this term as an ethnic identity?
Interestingly, some scholars thought that Asaru was a Semitic name and not Sumerian. However, later evidence, such as the information quoted above, show otherwise. Asaru was known as the “god of resurrection.” It is here that we see a unique connection between the god Asaru and the Egyptian god Osiris, a Greek term, but in the original Kemetic language, Osiris is Asar. It seems that the god Asaru of Sumerian lore, while a minor deity in the pre-Babylonian days, was probably a personification of a priesthood that worked both in Sumer and Egypt. There is also written evidence to support this. In The Secret Doctrine by H. P. Blavatsky — Vol. 2, we find the following:
”This is, indeed, very suggestive; for his description of the snake‘s hole is that of the ancient Egyptian crypt, as above mentioned. The hierophants, moreover, of Egypt, as of Babylon, generally styled themselves the “Sons of the Serpent-god,” or “Sons of the Dragon,” during the mysteries.”
Blavatsky’s comments show that both the adepts of Egypt and Babylon were under the same teaching, and thereby the same priesthood, the Brotherhood of the Serpent. This is expressed in Blavatsky’s later observation, as found in the Secret Doctrine:
“Surely Jesus of Nazareth would have hardly advised his apostles to show themselves as wise as the serpent, had the latter been a symbol of the Evil one;nor would the Ophites, the learned Egyptian Gnostics of “the Brotherhood of the Serpent,” have reverenced a living snake in their ceremonies as the emblem of WISDOM, the divine Sophia (and a type of the all-good, not the all-bad), were that reptile so closely connected with Satan. The fact is, that even as a common ophidian it has ever been a dual symbol and as a Dragon it had never been anything else than a symbol of the manifested Deity in its great Wisdom… Furthermore, the “War in Heaven” is shown, in one of its significations, to have meant and referred to those terrible struggles in store for the candidate for adeptship, between himself and his (by magic) personified human passions, when the inner enlightened man had to either slay them or fail. In the former case he became the “Dragon-Slayer,” as having happily overcome all the temptations; and a “Son of the Serpent” and a Serpent himself, having cast off his old skin and being born in a new body, becoming a Son of Wisdom and Immortality in Eternity… There is no Devil, no Evil, outside mankind to produce a Devil. Evil is a necessity in, and one of the supporters of the manifested universe. It is a necessity for progress and evolution, as night is necessary for the production of Day, and Death for that of Life — that man may live for ever… Satan represents metaphysically simply the reverse or the polar opposite of everything in nature.* He is the “adversary,” allegorically, the “murderer,” and the great Enemy of all, because there is nothing in the whole universe that has not two sides — the reverses of the same medal. But in that case, light, goodness, beauty, etc., may be called Satan with as much propriety as the Devil, since they are the adversaries of darkness, badness, and ugliness. And now the philosophy and the rationale of certain early Christian sects — called heretical and viewed as the abomination of the times — will become more comprehensible. We may understand how it was that the sect of SATANIANS came to be degraded, and were anathematized without any hope of vindication in a future day, since they kept their tenets secret. How, on the same principle, the CAINITES came to be degraded, and even the (Judas) ISCARIOTES; the true character of the treacherous apostle having never been correctly presented before the tribunal of Humanity.
3) Blavatsky also presents some very good information that answers the second part of our question, as to whether or not it is appropriate for one to use the Asaru name as an ethnic identity. Is this a part of the historical tradition of the peoples of ancient Mesopotamia:
“We find (a) the priests assuming the name of the gods they served; (b) the “Dragons” held throughout all antiquity as the symbols of Immortality and Wisdom, of secret Knowledge and of Eternity; and (c) the hierophants of Egypt, of Babylon, and India, styling themselves generally the “Sons of the Dragon” and “Serpents”; thus the teachings of the Secret Doctrine are thereby corroborated…. The Assyrian priest bore always the name of his god,” says Movers. The Druids of the Celto-Britannic regions also called themselves snakes. “I am a Serpent, I am a Druid,” they exclaimed. The Egyptian Karnak is twin brother to the Carnac of Bretagne, the latter Carnac meaning the serpent’s mount. The Dracontia once covered the surface of the globe, and these temples were sacred to the Dragon, only because it was the symbol of the sun, which, in its turn, was the symbol of the highest god — the Phoenician Elon or Elion, whom Abraham recognized as El Elion.* Besides the surname of serpents, they were called the “builders,” the “architects”; for the immense grandeur of their temples and monuments was such that even now the pulverized remains of them “frighten the mathematical calculations of our modern engineers,” says Taliesin.** …..De Bourbourg hints that the chiefs of the name of Votan, the Quetzo-Cohuatl, or Serpent deity of the Mexicans, are the descendants of Ham and Canaan. “I am Hivim,” they say. “Being a Hivim, I am of the great race of the Dragon (snake). I am a snake myself, for I am a Hivim.” (“Cartas,” 51;”Isis Unveiled,“Vol. I., 553, et seq.)”
Here we find a historical base in the records of antiquity of priests and priestesses who called themselves after the gods they serve. Actually, as touched on slightly in some of the information cited by Blavatsky, the custom of using a “surname” began as a way of showing what deity that a person was dedicated to.
4) While it is true that there are some ethnic groups that use their religious-spiritual culture as an ethnic identity, are there any provisions under the law that provide recognition for an Asaru ethnicity to be recognized bythe government:
Yes. The Atlantic Charter. The Atlantic Charter was negotiated at the Atlantic Conference by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, aboard warships in a secure anchorage at Naval Station Argentia, Newfoundland, and was issued as a joint declaration on August 14, 1941.
Besides specifying peacetime goals, the charter contained Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms, which he had outlined in his speech to the U.S. Congress on January 6, 1941, as the legislative (law-making) body considered passage of the Lend-Lease Act. The Lend-lease Act was a plan under which the United States would extend financial assistance to the Allied powers (Great Britain and France) fighting the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) in World War II. The third article of the Atlantic Charter reads as such:
“Third, they respect the right of all peoples to choose the form of government under which they will live; and they wish to see sovereign rights and self government restored to those who have been forcibly deprived of them; “
In this case of course, we are not trying to create our own form of government in the literal sense. Our initiation allows us entrance and citizenship in the heavenly kingdom of the DinGir. Jesus of Biblical mythology spoke of this when he mentioned that ‘his kingdom was no part of the world and that those seeking entrance into this kingdom must be born again.’
Additionally, we have the United Nations’ Declaration of Human Rights, where we find the following in Article 15 of the said document:
“(1) Everyone has the right to a nationality. (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.”
While the Asaru people respects the rights of other human beings, we find it completely abhorrent for the progeny of the DinGir, after being initiated into the primordial mysteries of the true Black Magician from times of remote antiquity, to adopt an ethnic or racial title that was the result of human ignorance, prejudice, and inappropriate claims of racial superiority. The Asaru stands in the balance of the ethnic and racial classification of a people who identify themselves by their spiritual nature rather than the physical characteristic of the domesticated human stock.
While we stand indifferent to being called by labels that human beings identify themselves with, we live in accord with the laws of the land. We abhor criminal activity and advise all our people to avoid such at all costs. We recognize that in our legends and mythologies, the DinGir held sway over the governments and appointed rulers, so it is not our place to interfere with the political scheme of things, or to break the law. We obey the law and strive to be the best in all our undertakings that fall in accord with such. We also recognize that governmental law is a reflection of divine law.
5) What steps are required for an individual to become an Asaru?
In order for one to become an Asaru they must meet the approval of the gods. Men and women do not hold sway on such decision. The process begins when an Elder member of our community guides one in learning the steps of initiation and how to speak with the deities. This also includes instruction on methods of raising the kundalini. In any event, during the process of initiation, the psyche of the candidate should begin to transform. We know the verifiable results of this process. If these things do not occur, other things will happen to illustrate the deities’ approval or disapproval.
After initiation the Asaru practices advance methods of transformation. Since, he/she has established a real working relationship with the DinGir (gods), mentorship is no longer required, but since the DinGir’s energies resonate in the bodies of all Asaru, we find a strong bond of love and unity among, void of all characteristics that are normally attributed to a “cult.”
6) What are the sacred books of the Asaru culture?
The only sacred book of the Asaru is the movement of the stars and dream yoga. However we do have some primary literary tool, most prominent being The Oracle of Enheduanna, and other ancient mythologies of Mesopotamia that existed before the Assyrian period. There are also the works of elders in the Asaru tradition like Warlock Asylum, Nightcaller and etc. we also share some references from the Simon Necronomicon, but this tool is no longer in use. Quotes may appear from this tome from time to time, as it was used by the elders of our community in the early part of our modern tradition. However, this tool is rarely used by the Asaru Clan.
7) What benefits would I get from becoming an Asaru?
Asaru culture has benefited many people, even those that stand outside of it. I would say primarily that anyone wishing to partake of this culture would get that his soul will allow. Our primary focus is the transformation of the soul. Whatever you can get from that will become more apparent as you work on the soul.
8) What work does the Asaru path include?
The Asaru path is that of a warrior for the most part. Our work is that of an inner alchemy while cultivating a relationship with the gods, and using our supernatural abilities given to us by the gods to assist the global community at large.
9) Since the Asaru in an ethnic identification, ids there an Asaru language as well?
Yes there is an Asaru language that is gradually learned by those on higher circles. The Asaru language is a communicative language, but it is more of an astrological language that is used to communicate with the celestial spheres and beings that are met while traveling in the ghost body.
10) When I become an Asaru what sort of paperwork do I receive?
The teachings, for the most part, are transmitted orally. After taking the initiatory steps and walking the seven gates, you will receive a sign from the gods, depending if they approve or not, that indeed, you are an Asaru. The date this sign is received a tribal birth certificate will be given to you for your own personal records and nationality papers. You will also receive a seal written in the Asaru language, which some tattoo to their bodies. Others use it as instructed by their mentors.
11) What does the Asaru Flag look like?
All nations that have flags have a beginning and an ending. We have a few symbols that we use, but not necessarily a flag in the human sense of the term. We do, however, use this symbol to represent the history of the Asaru culture.
